Boy unearths valuable bit of history

ARMED with a cheap metal detector, schoolboy Ben Kenwright was not planning on finding any buried treasure.

The William Beamont High School pupil was just passing time with his five year old brother, Adam, near their Alder Lane home, when he stumbled upon an extraordinary find.

The detector started beeping and 12-year-old Ben could not believe his luck when he unearthed a Queen Anne coin dating back to between 1702 and 1714.

Ben is currently in the process of getting the coin valued and, judging by internet prices for similar coinage, collectors could be willing to pay hundreds for Ben's little piece of history.
