Soap stay in contention

Saddleworth Rangers 12

Crosfields 34

CROSFIELDS maintained their promotion challenge in National Conference League Division Two with victory at lowly Saddleworth.

Soap stayed in the third promotion place after taking an early lead as man of the match Terry Reid surged through a gap for the first try of the game.

Pete Royle then collected Jimmy Williams' chip to make it 8-0 and the lead was further extended when Eddie Bannon darted over from dummy half, with Royle converting.

Soap took an 18-point advantage into half time as John Bannon fed the rampaging Fraser Linaker and, although Neil Kirwin pulled a try back for Saddleworth, Danny Inman's effort and a second for Reid gave Crosfields an unassailable lead.

Again the hosts hit back through Kirwin but Soap rounded off the scoring when Dave Boden supplied Dave Pennington.

Crosfields: Dave Pennington; Mark Moran, Fraser Linaker, Andrew Haigh, Pete Royle; Jimmy Williams, Dave Griffiths; Terry Reid, Eddie Bannon, Danny Inman, Matty Pitt, Paul Clarke, John Bannon. Subs: Dave Boden, Dave Lucas, James Glover, Neil Savage.
