Olivia queen of the water

WARRINGTON Rowing Club won nine of the 17 events at a junior indoor rowing competition in Hartford on Saturday.

Warrington were competing against rowers from Northwich Rowing Club, Runcorn Rowing Club and The Grange School and secured gold in the girls' junior 16 race thanks to the performance of Olivia Oakes, Katy McQuillian, Rachel Connor and Sarah Cooper.

Oakes also won the individual race, pushing McQuillian into second, while Mike Pownall, Tom Pearson, Luke Balcerak and Chris Johnstone triumphed in the boys' junior 15 team event.

Phil Lyons clinched victory in the boys' junior 14 individual event ahead of second-placed Matt Spence, and the pair also teamed up with Josh Goswell and Darren Griffiths to win the team race.

Jenny Pearson and Liv Clubley both won gold medals in the girls' junior 14 individual race after a dead heat, and the duo secured another gold in the team event alongside Lauren Rowe and Lottie Cooper.

James Foreman, Ed Sims, Tom Leather and Robert Fowler finished first in the boys' junior 13 team race, while there was also victory for Hannah Unsworth, Jenny Argent, Mark Lavery and Martin Goswell in the coaches' team race.

Johnstone and Balcerak took silver and bronze respectively in the boys' junior 16 individual race, while Pownall grabbed a bronze medal in the boys' junior 15 individual event.

* Warrington's next event will be the Runcorn Spring Eights Head on March 4.
