Town's match should have gone ahead

WARRINGTON Town will hope to play the first of their 20 remaining league games when they take on Kendal Town at Cantilever Park on Saturday.

Town, who are seven points from safety in the UniBond First Division, saw their match at Kendal, Cumbria, postponed 45 minutes before kick off at the weekend and now have eight games in hand on rivals Spalding.

Part of that is down to their success in cup competitions this year but Town's joint boss Glenn Walker was frustrated to lose another game to the weather on Saturday.

He said: "We had already arrived at Kendal when it was called off and we were very frustrated because we wanted the game on.

"There was nothing wrong with the pitch and it could take a stud, but the referee said it was frozen and called it off at 2.15pm.

"We've still got 20 games left, which is almost half a season, but that's the price of success in the cups."

The away trip to second-placed Kendal has now been rearranged for April 11 but Town will host the same side on Saturday at 3pm.

New midfielder Ben Kay is in line to make his debut and front man Phil Mitchell has recovered from a knee injury, but midfielder Mike Ellison has left the club and striker James Featherstone could be set to join Clitheroe.

* Liam Sweeney scored the only goal as Town's reserve team won 1-0 at Gamesley in the Mid-Cheshire League Second Division on Saturday.
