Licensee threatened during pub robbery

POLICE are appealing for information following a robbery at a Winsford pub in the early hours of Sunday.

The female licensee of the Old Star pub on Swanlow Lane was confronted by an intruder at 2.50am who threatened her and demanded she hand over money.

The male offender then made off with a significant amount of cash.

Police officers arrived at the scene shortly after and cordoned off the area while forensic investigations took place.

Although no weapon was used in the robbery the victim was left extremely distressed.

Det Sgt Dave Snasdell, from Winsford Neighbourhood Policing Unit, said: "She was confronted by this man in the pub in the early hours and it must have been a very frightening experience for her.

"There didn't appear to be a weapon but he threatened her and took a significant amount of cash with him."

Police are now appealing for anyone with information on the robbery to come forward.

Det Sgt Snasdell said: "This was an incident that took place inside the licensee's premises so it is a very serious offence.

"We don't have a clear description of the offender other than he is a white male but if anyone saw anything suspicious in the area at around the time this happened then they should call us immediately.

"It may be that they saw someone in the area or has heard something about the incident."

Anyone with information should call DC Steve Jackson at the police serious investigation unit on 01244 613258.
