A glimpse into future of village

THE countdown to decision day for a multi-million-pound housing development in Wincham has begun.

New plans show what the village will look like should the proposal get the go ahead.

A colour master plan shows the location of the new road infrastructure, housing, business units, sports pitches and a marina.

The Lower Wincham Urban Village is earmarked for retail and industrial development, and features space for around 600 affordable homes.

Clr Stuart Russell, borough councillor for Wincham, said: "The village is beautifully designed and will transform that part of Vale Royal.

"It would solve in one stroke all the traffic problems the residents in lower Wincham, especially Chapel Street, have to put up with.

"I especially like the canalside developments and the sporting facilities and am sure we'll get the green light if we just keep hanging on in there."

Residents and councillors were left disappointed a year ago when the 35-acre development was not part of the latest draft of the Vale Royal Local Plan.

They hope it will be reinstated in a new inspector's report due in April, especially after plans for a similar, larger project in Winnington were thrown out by John Prescott in November 2004.
