Early morning ram-raid

ROBBERS escaped empty-handed after an early morning ram-raid on a convenience store.

Six men used a blue Vauxhall Carlton to break into the Londis store in Halton View Road, Widnes, at around 3.50am on Thursday.

They then tied an unknown article around the ATM cash machine and proceeded to pull it outside into the street where a further vehicle, a dark coloured Audi estate joined them.

Police were called to the incident, which led four or five offenders to run from the scene in the direction of Ireland Street. They escaped in another vehicle thought to be a Volkswagen Golf.

The Audi was driven off into Haughton Street and has not been sighted since, while the Vauxhall Carlton was recovered. The cash machine was left lying in the road.
