Car park repairs cause disruption

SCORES of motorists will have to find somewhere else to park for the next two weeks while a car park is resurfaced.

Long-awaited work began on Monday on a badly-needed facelift for West Street car park in Congleton.

It is the biggest public car park in the town, and is in line for improvements costing £140,000.

The car park is in desperate need of resurfacing, and more lighting to improve security and safety.

A total of 19 new lights are to be installed as part of the facelift, as well as a CCTV camera capable of scanning the area.

The work has meant the closure from Monday for three weeks of the back end of the car park and the entrance off Crescent Road.

As a result 68 spaces will be out of action temporarily, and motorists will have to park in one of the other town centre car parks.

Another quarter of the car park will be resurfaced following completion of the back section, with access from West Street and Crescent Road.

The third phase will involve the parking spaces near the West Street entrance.

The work is being undertaken by Congleton Borough Council, which is also spending £45,000 on resurfacing, CCTV and new lighting at Fanny's Croft car park in Alsager.

The work at the car parks is due to be completed by the middle of April.

The council is also due to carry out improvements to Back Park Street car park in Congleton.
