Crackdown on roadside car sales

A JOINT operation is planned to tackle roadside car sales.

Both the highways and trading standards departments at Warrington Borough Council will be working together on the scheme.

John Williams, highways maintenance manager, said: "It is illegal for anyone to park cars on the highway and advertise them for sale as they constitute a hazard and a nuisance on the highway.

"When council officers come across any vehicles parked for this purpose, a highways notice is posted on the vehicle advising the owners to remove the vehicle forthwith."

Pete Astley, trading standards manager, said: "We are planning a joint initiative with the highways department to look at not only the anti-social behaviour issues associated with vehicles being parked and advertised on roadsides but also the quality and safety of these vehicles.

"We will not hesitate to take necessary action against anyone who is found to be breaking the law and this could result in the council removing the vehicles."
