Light relief for members of under threat women only gym

WE can take on the distraught women from Fitness First.

That's the message from a Sankey Bridge gym with a women-only section.

1st Fitness Club said it could take on some of the more than 1,000 members of Fitness First for Women when then town centre gym closes at the end of March.

The closure news left some of the members in tears.

But 1st Fitness Club owner Kevin Deeley said his club, which is off Old Liverpool Road, has separate training sections and facilities for men and women.

"We've had a couple of ladies from Fitness First down already," said Mr Deeley, a 47-year-old from Appleton. "I think the ladies only part is what attracted them."

Mr Deeley said while women sometimes use the weights section in the men's gym, the men are now allowed into the women's section.
