Upgrade for station

WARRINGTON Central train station refurbishment work will begin in three or four weeks.

New male, female and disabled toilets will be built.

And the decrepit Manchester bound waiting room will be done up.

The ticket office will also be fixed up to make life easier for staff.

But work is still going on to see if the lift can be fitted in - it would involve the re-routing of a gas main.

Consultants will tell station managers Trans Pennine Express of the likely cost and then a decision will be made whether to go ahead.

Warrington resident, Brian Simpson who is chairman of the North West Rail Campaign, said: "This work is something I've been hoping for and pushing for for quite a few years so hopefully we can now get things done."

The work is being funded jointly by Trans Pennine Express and Warrington Borough Council.
