Your big chance to try out a life under the ocean wave

A ONCE in a lifetime opportunity to spend a day on the HMS Turbulent submarine is the prize in a special charity auction open to Warrington Guardian readers.

You could be diving 30metres beneath the sea on the Royal Navy's nuclear powered vessel, which has been affiliated with Warrington since 1984.

The trip for six people is to be auctioned by Demelza Hospice Care for Children at its charity ball on Friday, February 24, at Eastwell Manor, near Ashford in Kent.

The high adrenalin voyage will depart from Plymouth Sound early on Monday, April 3.

Hosted by the HMS Turbulent's Commanding Officer, Commander Andrew Coles, OBE, guests will be able to witness emergency escape and safety exercises, state-of-the-art listening and observational technologies and view the world from the navigational and attack periscopes.

They will see how the £1m Spearfish torpedoes can be loaded before firing; learn about the submarine's mechanical workings and life for the 130 officers and crew under the ocean.

And there will be a special lunch in the officers' wardroom, before a thrilling mock torpedo attack in the afternoon.

Organisations or individuals wishing to bid for the HMS Turbulent voyage should download a postal application form from www.demelza.org.uk.

All bids must be submitted by 12pm on Friday, February 24 to the auctioneers, BTF Lister.
