Irene's art has a social conscience

A GIFTED artist who paints as a hobby is exhibiting her work at closure-threatened Runcorn Tourist Information Centre.

Irene Nolan pledged her support for this vital facility in Church Street, urging World readers to fight the move, part of Halton Council's budget cuts.

"I feel it is a shame," she said. "We want our information centre to stay for the sake of the public. It is a help to the public for lots of different information they may need from time to time. You can always find a smiley, happy face there to help you solve your problem. So everyone should bug the council to let it stay."

Irene's designs are abstract, fantasy, bible and landscape acrylic paintings on canvas.

"I am a mature artist," said Irene. "I have been painting all my life."

Irene says she is one of many local artists who use the centre to display work.
