Manslaughter verdict on wife killing

TOP solicitor Christopher Lumsden has been found guilty of the manslaughter of his wife at Manchester Crown Court, Crown Square today, Friday.

Lumsden, aged 51, of Dunham Road in Altrincham killed his wife, 53-year-old Alison of the same address, on March 16 last year. He has been sentenced to five years imprisonment.

Detective Sergeant John Fox said: "Alison's family has suffered a terrible loss in tragic circumstances. The word tragedy sums up the whole scenario.

"This has been a very sensitive case to investigate and I hope the result at court today will allow the family to close this chapter of their lives so they can begin to move on."

Alison's family have paid the following tribute to her life.

"Alison was dearly loved by all her family, especially her parents, Ronald and Cecilia Gerrard; her children, Thomas and Kate; and her brothers Philip, Michael and Ian, and their wives and children.

"All who knew her, whether at school, university, at work or throughout her family life will remember her enthusiasm, her kindness and devotion to her family.

"She was a talented and popular person, whose zest for life brightened up any gathering. Her wide circle of friends, and the clubs and societies she supported all share the family's shock, in the manner of her death, and share their grief.

"She is desperately missed by all of us.

"We will need time and privacy to come to terms with what has happened."
