See why they

are worried

FURTHER to D Hughes' letter (Guardian, February 2) I would like to point out a few inaccuracies.

D Hughes says that Manchester City Council's objections to the Omega project are amazing. They may well be, but Manchester City Council isn't getting everything its own way as D Hughes suggests.

The Trafford Centre and Trafford Park are not, as stated in D Hughes' letter, in Manchester city, they are in fact in Trafford, which comes under the authority of Trafford Borough Council. The same authority also has Manchester United and Lancashire Cricket Club in its borders, leaving Manchester with the velodrome, Eastlands and the city centre shops.

Manchester on the other hand is also looking likely to lose the prestigious coup of the BBC's proposed move north to Salford City Council. And BT has just announced that it will be moving its Manchester base out of Manchester city centre and into Salford. So, while I feel very little sympathy for Manchester City Council's objections to the Omega project, I can see why they might be worried.
