Wolves Academy back in action
WOLVES' under 21s side could have a more experienced look when they kick off their Senior Academy Championship campaign against Salford at Wilderspool on Saturday at 2.30pm.
New regulations allow a total of seven players over the age of 21 to be selected, meaning that senior players not likely to be involved in the weekend Super League game could get regular run-outs throughout the season.
But promising prop Michael Cooper may not figure on Saturday even though initial X-rays suggest he did not break his jaw in the Senior Academy's friendly against Blackpool Panthers.
The 16-year-old sustained facial injuries in a tackle but it is hoped he will not face a lengthy spell on the sidelines.
Honour in defeat
WARRINGTON Schoolboys under 11s rugby league team can take great heart from their overall performance against St Helens despite a 22-20 home defeat.
The result was in doubt until the final whistle with the home side pressurising the opposition line in the final minutes but failing to convert the bombardment into a winning score.
Tries were scored by Lewis Charnock, Josh Wall, Declan Patton and Ben Walker, with great performances coming from Luke Walker, Callum Wright and Ashley Cox.
The team's next game is at Oldham on Saturday.
France chance
CROSFIELDS' under eights rugby league team have been selected to play in the curtain-raiser to Wolves' clash with Catalans Dragons in the south of France on May 6.
The junior outfit will take on a side of developing French players in the match, which will take place directly before Wolves' Super League fixture at the Stade Aim Giral in Perpignan.
Coach required
WOOLSTON Rovers' under 12s rugby league team are looking for a new coach.
Interested parties should hold a club coach certificate or be willing to take the appropriate course to attain it.
The team currently play in the North West Counties League and more information is available from Kath on 632424.
Jordan dismissed
WARRINGTON professional footballer Stephen Jordan was sent off during Manchester City's 1-0 defeat at Everton on Saturday.
The 23-year-old left back, who grew up in Locking Stumps, was dismissed in the 90th minute of the mid-table Premiership encounter after collecting two bookings for fouls on Mikel Arteta and Tony Hibbert.
Jordan, who has started City's last six games, will now miss City's home match against Charlton on Sunday as he serves a one-match ban.
