A glowing report for Woolston

'KEEP up the good work' is the message to pupils and staff at Woolston Primary School after Government inspectors gave it a positive report.

Children at the school are eager to learn and enjoy lessons, according to Ofsted inspectors who visited the school in December last year.

They also noted that it is a good, well managed school where a 'high emphasis is placed on meeting the needs of all children'.

Their report highlighted that the children's personal, spiritual, moral, social and cultural development are all 'good'.

Head teacher Judith Elshaw, who joined the school in January last year is making good progress according to inspectors who noted that she is providing strong leadership.

Mrs Elshaw said: "I am delighted with this report as it highlights so many aspects of our school life and I want to thank the pupils, staff and school community.

"We are striving to give our pupils the best standards of education and we will take on board the inspectors' comments about how we can further improve."

The quality of teaching and learning is 'good' and the teachers have 'consistent expectations of behaviour and good use of praise ensuring that lessons are well ordered'.

Inspectors recommended that the school should improve standards in writing through the school by raising the challenge presented to the more capable children and develop the use of ICT to support learning across the curriculum.

Cath Shipton, chairman of governors, said: "Congratulations to the school for a wonderful report.

"The governors will continue to support the head teacher and her team and we support their commitment to improvement."
