It's a thankless job but someone has got to do it

THE future of Wharton Parish Residents' Association is in jeopardy following an unsuccessful search for a new chairman.

Tony Deyn stepped down as chairman last month and so far no one has come forward to carry on his good work.

He said: "As it stands now the association has stopped because no one has committed themselves to taking over the position of chairman.

"I can understand why people are unsure about doing the job because in many ways it is a thankless task but I feel we achieved a lot while I was chairman.

"The Homewatch scheme will continue but other than that nothing is happening with the association any more."

Tony stepped down after a year running the association due to personal commitments and he is now appealing to people in Wharton for a successor.

He said: "There may be someone out there who is perhaps retired or has some time on their hands and would like to make a difference.

"Everyone we have approached so far has said they haven't got the time and that is fair enough, but unless someone comes forward there is no residents' association.

"If the people want a residents' association then someone will have to take it on but if they don't then the situation will remain as it is.

"I think it is a shame if the association doesn't continue because it is a great way for residents to raise issues but if nothing can be done to solve the situation then we will just have to accept it."

Anyone who is interested in taking up the position of association chairman should contact Tony on 01606 860442.
