KNIFE ATTACK: MAN CHARGED WITH GBH

A WINSFORD man was taken to hospital suffering from a collapsed lung after he was stabbed during an incident in the early hours of Saturday.

Police and ambulance crews were called to an address in Austin Close at 1.20am after reports of a man being stabbed in the chest with a knife.

The 33-year-old victim was taken to Leighton Hospital for treatment and his injuries have been described as serious but not life threatening.

A Mersey Regional Ambulance spokesman said: "It was a stab to the chest and is obviously an extremely serious incident."

Police officers arrested a 25-year-old man at the scene who has since been charged with grievous bodily harm and bailed.

Det Sgt Dave Snasdell, from Winsford Neighbourhood Policing Unit, said: "A man was stabbed in the chest with what I believe was a knife.

"He suffered a collapsed lung as a result of the incident so his injuries are serious.

"But he is lucky his injuries are not more serious because it could have been much worse considering he suffered a stab wound to the chest.

"A man was arrested nearby and has been charged with Section 18 wounding."
