School is top of the class!

THE proud headteacher of an 'outstanding' Runcorn school has spoken of his joy after it received top marks in an OFSTED report.

Halton High School, in Barnfield Avenue, Murdishaw, gained the highest possible grade for its 'exceptional' advice in support for children and was also praised for its 'wide range of systems working with outside agencies'.

Headmaster John Rowlands said: "We have made such rapid progress because we have developed a very strong work ethic where all the staff, pupils and parents have contributed to the improvements and developments within the school.

Inspectors deemed the key area of teaching and learning to be good and commended the range of sporting and extra-curricular activities the school provides, concluding it has 'exceeded some of the challenging targets it set for itself' and is now well-placed to raise standards even further.

Mr Rowlands added: "The key has been the innovative and creative approach we have adopted to successfully solve difficult problems.

We are now gaining a national reputation for our work."
