Firm submits waste plant bid

A PROPOSAL to build an eco-park at Ince Marshes, near Helsby - including a huge 600,000 tonne incinerator -- has finally been submitted to Cheshire County Council.

Developers Peel Environmental hope that plans to revolutionise rubbish handling at their Resource Recovery Park will be approved, despite the project not featuring in the county council's replacement waste local plan.

Due to its size, the Government will decide whether to give the green light for the most controversial element of the package - the 95 mega watt incinerator.

Development manager Myles Kitcher played down fears that residents' health will be put at risk.

"We would not be able to get a planning consent if there was any danger to the local community, and the proposed plant will comply with all current UK and European standards."

The incinerator would burn rubbish from Cheshire, Greater Manchester and Merseyside, while an integrated waste management facility is pencilled in to treat household and commercial waste from across the north of the county.
