LEIGH NEAR UNWANTED RECORD

LEIGH CENTURIONS will equal a club record losing run of 18 successive defeats if they lose their opening match of the season after being relegated from engage Super League.

They lost their last 17 matches of 2005, consisting of 16 in Super League and one Powergen Challenge Cup-tie. Their last win was 40-20 at home to Halifax in the Powergen Challenge Cup fifth round on 8 May 2005.

Leigh's record run of 18 successive defeats was spanning the war seasons of 1939-40 and 1940-41. It included two defeats in a summer competition and an RL Challenge Cup-tie.

Leigh are at Blackpool Panthers in the Northern Rail Cup on Friday.
