Collision at 'historic' site

A BUS and two cars collided at a set of town centre traffic lights with a history of accidents.

The crash, on Saturday afternoon, happened by the Unilever factory at the junction of Parker Street and Sankey Street. No-one was injured.

The lights were put up at a time when it was thought only one set of lights was needed for each traffic queue, but this means people at the front of a queue or in filter lanes cannot see light changes.

In the past 12 months there have been five other collisions, one of which involved a serious injury and two slight injuries.

As there were no injuries in this collision and the drivers exchanged details, the crash will not feature in police casualty records.

The council does not intend to investigate the junction 'at this time'.
