Driver assaulted in attempted burglary

RAIDERS fled empty handed after a cash-in-transit attempted robbery in north Widnes on Monday night.

Police raced to Lunts Heath Road at around 9.20pm after reports the driver of a security van containing cash had been assaulted.

The driver, who suffered minor injuries, activated an alarm and the offenders fled in a vehicle later found abandoned a short distance away.
