Future is bright for Beamont students

THE future is looking bright for students and staff at William Beamont Community High School.

The school and specialist sports college ended 2005 on a high when they received a glowing Ofsted report, which praised the 'good care, advice and support' provided to pupils.

And only one month into the New Year the school is celebrating yet again after it made it on to a list of the 100 most improved schools in the country.

The school earned the place on the Government's performance league tables as a result of sustained improvements in results at GCSE level since 2002.

Head teacher Maggie Williams, who joined the school in Easter 2004, said: "Making the top 100 is evidence of the great strides being made at our school. I am extremely proud of the efforts of our staff and pupils.

"Everyone has worked together to achieve this and will continue to do so to bring about even further improvements in the future in order to provide all our pupils with the best possible start in life that we can.

"In our recent Ofsted inspection inspectors described our school as 'an effective and improving school with the capacity to improve even further'.

"We look forward to continuing to work effectively together with all our partners in our community to ensure that all our young people fulfil their potential."

Borough councillor Terry Whelan, chairman of governors at the school, said: "It is a major achievement to be named amongst the 100 most improved schools in the country and everyone in the Orford area should feel very proud of their school".
