The main aims of the campaign are to raise awareness of stroke symptoms and, if you suspect a stroke, call 999.

This ensures early diagnosis and treatment.

You can tell whether someone is having a stroke or a mini stroke a TIA by using FAST - face, arms and speech test.

From April 2004 to April 2005, 408 people suffered a stroke in Warrington.

The Stroke Club, Speakability and Dysphasia Support all help these people after a stroke.

Dysphasia support helps people with communication - reading, writing and understanding. Speech therapists refer people on to Dysphasia Support, which is held at Alford Sports and Social Club every Thursday afternoon from 1pm - 3pm.

The husband of one member said: "My wife always looks forward to going to the meetings and has made many good friends. This has been helped by the carers at the group. May the good work continue."

If you want to become a helper at the group, call the organiser, Carol Smith, on 01942 672046. It is a warm and friendly group.

Look out for stroke signs
