Crosfields maintain run

CROSFIELDS will be aiming to continue their progress on two fronts as they host Oulton Raiders in the first round of the Powergen Challenge Cup on Saturday.

Soap face the Leeds-based National Conference Premier Division side at Hood Lane, kick-off 1.30pm, after maintaining their challenge for promotion in Division Two with a 40-10 home win against Heworth at the weekend.

Crosfields currently occupy the third promotion place and dominated their York opponents for 70 minutes.

Soap's first try came when Rob Ditchfield pounced on Jimmy Williams' deft chip.

A superb move involving Williams, Dave Boden and Pete Royle was then finished off by Richard Hough, with the conversion kicked by Williams, who was again involved as Boden scored to make it 16-4 at half time.

Soap maintained their momentum after the interval, with Williams and Craig Noone putting Danny Inman over before man of the match Dave Pennington scythed through the defence to score.

Another clever chip from Williams allowed Terry Reid to touch down, before the stand off grabbed a try of his own.

Reid's powerful surge enabled Greg Pickett to dummy his way over for Soap's final try.

Crosfields: Rob Ditchfield; Dave Pennington, Fraser Linaker, Pete Royle, Richard Hough; Jimmy Williams, Greg Pickett; Terry Reid, Eddie Bannon, Barry Lowe, Dave Boden, Craig Noone, Danny Inman. Subs: Mike Redmond, Dave Lucas, Matt Lee, Neil Savage.
