Five grab rowing gold

FIVE members of Warrington Rowing Club brought home gold medals from the English Indoor Rowing Championships in Manchester on Sunday.

Hannah Unsworth became the women's junior 18 English champion over 2,000m and received her gold medal from Sir Steve Redgrave, who was present to film an ITV documentary.

Kate McQuillian also took gold in the girls' junior 16 sprint over 500m, while Liv Oakes won the 2,000m race in the same age group.

Liv Clubley became the national champion in the girls' junior 14 sprint, and Chris Johnstone triumphed in the boys' junior 15 race over 2,000m.

Silver medals went to McQuillian in the girls' junior 16 event and Luke Balcerak in the boys' junior 15 race, and Balcerak joined forces with Oakes, Unsworth and Johnstone to secure silver in the open age mixed 3,000m relay.

Clubley added to her gold medal with silver in the girls' junior 14 race over 2,000m, while Matt Spence was second in the boys' junior 14 sprint and Henry Balcerak grabbed silver in the boys' junior 12 sprint.

Two bronzes for Phil Lyons in the boys' junior 14 sprint and 2,000m events, one for Jenny Argent in the women's junior 18 lightweight race and one for Jennie Pearson in the girls' junior 14 event completed Warrington's tally of 15 medals at the championships.
