Resident puts boot into box

A RESIDENT of Barnton is objecting to a portable green container which he can see close to his lounge window.

The container was put on Townfield Lane by Barnton Football Club, which didn't realise planning permission was required and has now applied for it.

Roger Little, of Laurel Close, said he had not been contacted by anyone from the football club.

Mr Little approached councillor Frank Casey and asked him to speak on his behalf at the parish council.

Clr Casey said: "He objects very strongly.

"He said the container is outside his lounge window, 15 yards from his settee.

"He has been to see the headmistress of the primary school who said it was nothing to do with her."

The parish council decided to approve the application by five votes to four.

Steve Brewer, from Barnton Football Club, said: "Prior to locating the unit, our secretary spoke to Mr Little, admittedly over the garden fence.

"His house is on the corner and is the only property able to see it from his window.

"We explained where we would like to put it and why. At that time he was more than happy, and wished us good luck and congratulated us on the work we do for the local kids.

"It was only when it was delivered that he objected. By then we had paid for the unit and the transport (all non refundable)."
