Town's court is back in business as work ends

IT was business as usual at Northwich Magistrates' Court on Monday when it reopened its doors following a two-week break.

The site, on Chesterway, was forced to shut to allow for asbestos removal and structural alterations to be carried out and justice was diverted to Chester Magistrates' Court.

Concern was raised ahead of the temporary closure that the court would not reopen but despite repair works not being fully realised, staff responsible for the site are happy with the progress.

A spokesman for Her Majesty's Courts Service, Cheshire, said: "The asbestos has been removed and a programme has been set up for the end of February and March to complete the remainder of the structural repairs.

"The court will remain open during this time.

"We are happy with how the work has gone and were pleased to finish ahead of schedule."

The site, which will house the county court when it leaves its current High Street location later this year, must be refurbished by the March 31 financial year deadline.
