Achievement earns school £750,000

CELEBRATIONS are under way at Hartford High School this week after it secured specialist language and sports status.

The award means it will receive an extra £750,000 during the next four years.

It was the first time the school, in Chester Road, had bid for specialist status.

Headteacher Mike Holland has described the achievement as a significant success.

He said: "We now have become the second language college in Cheshire at a time when most schools are cutting resources given to languages.

"We believe they are too important and we fully intend to become mid Cheshire's centre of excellence for languages."

And Mr Holland is looking forward to improving sport at the site. He said: "It will give a boost to our efforts to build a sports hall.

"Hartford High is the hub of mid Cheshire's sport development partnership and we know there is a significant amount of community money earmarked for sports facilities on the campus."
