AN ANGLESEY man is appealing to readers to help him trace his Northwich ancestry.
Phil Cooper is seeking information about deceased relatives on both sides of his family and hopes Guardian readers can help speed up his efforts.
He said: "The vast majority of my family were from Northwich, Winsford, Middlewich and the surrounding villages and parishes.
"The surnames I am most interested in on my paternal line are Cooper, especially Florence L, born in 1882 in Kettering, and her brothers Harry and Herbert, born in Northwich in 1886 and 1888 respectively.
"I am also trying to find out what trades they were involved in."
And Phil is also hoping to find some memories from his mother's side.
He added: "There were the Evans of Northwich and Newtons of Middlewich.
"Thomas Evans was born in 1885 and was once an engine smith at Marston.
"He married Ethel Alcock of Northwich and her family were in the salt mining business Alcock Brothers and owned flat barges for transporting goods on the River Weaver.
"Other surnames associated with these families were Gandy, Blower, Drinkwater, Dale and Palin."
Phil believes the Holland clan may have left their mark on the town.
He said: "They lived in Holland Road, opposite the workhouse, which is now the Salt Museum, and owned and worked the tannery for a number of generations.
"Collectively they were skinners, tanners and curriers.
"I would like to find out if anyone knows anything about this family or their trade. Was Holland Road named after them?"
