Poet to be a joyful replacement

THE search is on for a talented Cheshire wordsmith to become the county's poet laureate for 2006.

Entries for the honorary role, currently held by Joy Winkler, poet in residence at Styal Prison, should be submitted before noon on November 18.

David Rowlands, Cheshire County Council's deputy council leader, said: "Any poet wishing to take Joy's post must have the experience to perform live, lead or take part in workshops and enjoy meeting people in many varied situations.

"Extremely varied commissions must be completed on time and capture the individual atmosphere and importance of each one."

Anyone interested in applying for the role should contact Elizabeth Newall on 01244 602898 or email elizabeth.newall@cheshire.gov.uk.
