Partnership to cut road accidents in borough

ORGANISATIONS across Warrington have joined forces to try to cut road accidents in the borough.

Figures show that there are around 900 accidents a year in the area with more than one third involving of 17 to 28 year-old drivers.

Now, representatives from the fire brigade, police and the borough council, among others, have come together to try to tackle the issue by working together in the Warrington Road Safety Network Partnership.

The partnership was launched on Friday at Warrington fire station and its members are looking for ways to offer a new, unified response to improve the environment and educate and encourage people to think about road safety.

Both the police and Warrington Borough Council have taken a proactive approach to the issue and Cheshire fire service has developed a road safety unit and emergency response motorcycle in a bid to make the roads safer but it is hoped that even more can be done.

Warrington fire station commander Paul MacGugan, said: "There is a definite need for us to take action together now before more young drivers take to the roads and we certainly mean to do just that!"
