Taxpayers asked to help disabled

TAXPAYERS' money may be used to produce a guidebook to help the disabled find their way around Knutsford.

Town mayor Wilson Hamman said the booklet was needed even if it did only serve a small percentage of the population.

He said the guide - compiled by 85-year-old retired optician Bob Quin - highlighted the difficult spots in town.

"It's very good. Mr Quin has done splendid work on this," he said.

Mr Quin, who needs a motorised scooter, had taken notes and photographs of dozens of places in Knutsford to create the booklet.

Councillors, who last week approved the draft, agreed to find out how much it would cost to publish.

They believe the guide could also include information about buildings, such as the Heritage Centre, that are accessible for disabled people.
