Pope on Alex trial

BIDDULPH Vics striker Tom Pope could be on his way to Crewe Alexandra.

Tom is having a trial this week with the club after being watched by the Alex's assistant manager and the club scout.

The Vics beat Brierley and Hagley 3-0 at home on Saturday in the first preliminary round of the FA Vase.

Pope scored on 20 minutes with a header from a Josh Ford cross, and Martin Heath made it 2-0 on 35 minutes when he headed home another Ford cross.

Heath scored his second nine minutes from the end when he knocked in a ball pushed away by the keeper.

The Vics drew 3-3 at Oadby Town on Tuesday after throwing away a 2-0 half-time lead.

Pope put the Vics two up, but they conceded three in the second half, and were saved by a Scott Burge penalty five minutes from time.

"We dominated the first half, and although I would have settled for a point before the match I was disappointed we didn't win," said Vics' boss Terry Greer. The Vics are at home tomorrow to Stratford Town in the league.
