Residents hit out at rubbish treatment

RESIDENTS in Dallam finally have reason to cheer after rubbish was cleared - three months after it was first pointed out.

Borough council chiefs went on a walk of the area back in June where grot spots, including a large tree stump left in a sandbag, were pointed out.

Now officers have come back to clean the area.

The tree stump, dumped in a sandbag and left lying by the garages and the substation at the bottom of Lewis Avenue, was pointed out to council representatives in June, during a walk-around of the area.

Albert Gammack, from Lewis Avenue, alerted the Warrington Guardian to the issue.

Speaking at the time, the treasurer of Dallam Residents' Association said: "A walk around the area was carried out three months ago and we identified these problems, but they are still here so it's futile.

"No local councillors turned up for the walk, but there were representatives from Golden Gates Housing, Street Scene and our association.

"The problem is that we're working but they're not."

On the day that the Warrington Guardian had arranged to photograph the problem, council staff removed the offending tree stump.

Mr Gammack added: "I'm glad that something has finally been done.

"Just as the photographer came down the trunk was removed, the Warrington Guardian getting involved seems to have shaken some people up.

"It shows you what the press can do and its nice to know somebody is behind us."

Warrington Borough Council was unavailable to comment on the matter before the Guardian went to press.
