Teenager drove car after ban

POLICE pursued a Winsford teenager after they spotted him driving a car while disqualified - just one month after the original ban was imposed.

The 17-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, had been banned from driving for six months on August 1 this year.

He appeared before magistrates at Northwich Youth Court last Wednesday after being seen behind the wheel of a green Vauxhall Cavalier by police on patrol on September 11.

Nigel James, prosecuting said the officers followed the car from Dene Drive on to Queennsway before the youth jumped out and fled before they could catch him.

Mr James added that the same officers arrested the boy later that day, although he denied during interview that he had been driving and that he had run away.

Chris Johnson, defending, said it was a stupid way for his client to get into trouble.

He had been moving the car for a friend who had caused an obstruction after parking in front of his house.

He admitted the boy's biggest problem was that he had committed two similar offences in a short period of time.

The case was adjourned until September 28 for a pre-sentence report to be prepared.
