Bruce's visit is a bonus for hospice

ONE of football's most colourful characters will be arriving in Winsford next month to support a fundraising event.

Liverpool legend Bruce Grobbelaar will attend a sportsmans' dinner at Winsford Civic Hall on October 14 with all proceeds from the event going to St Luke's Cheshire Hospice.

Event organiser Harry Mooney is delighted one of the most recognisable faces in the world of sport will be offering his support.

He said: "It is an absolutely fantastic capture for us because he is a legend and also a very entertaining personality.

"I'm sure him coming along will help to raise the profile of the event and I'm sure it's going to be a huge success for us."

Grobbelaar's 'spaghetti legs' in the 1984 European Cup final against Roma assured his place in football folklore and he will be recalling memories of that game as well as many others at the event in Winsford.

Harry said: "He will have a lot of memories that people will be interested in and I will love it if he does that wobbly leg thing for us as well."
