School to upgrade after land swap

COMMUNITY members in Westy look set to reap the benefits of better sports facilities after a land swap has paved the way for improvement works.

The executive board of Warrington Borough Council sanctioned the exchange of land at Cardinal Newman Catholic High School with United Utilities at a meeting on Monday.

There will be some houses built on site but in return, the development will bring new and refurbished high quality indoor and outdoor sports facilities for the school and community use and the opening of existing school facilities for the community.

The council says that the project will provide additional new sports and leisure facilities on the high school site and crucially enable those facilities to be externally managed for their community use.
