Worker fears

HUNDREDS of workers in Warrington fear for their jobs after news that a computer giant will cut nearly 1,000 posts in the UK.

Hewlett Packard announced earlier this year that it planned to get rid of 14,500 employees worldwide and, this week, has indicated it will cut 968 positions in this country.

The company employs around 500 workers at a site on Birchwood Business Park, who fulfil a mainly administrate role.

The computer firm won't say where the jobs will go, but there are another six sites across the UK .

Union Amicus said it is hoping the company will avoid redundancies.
