Pub in ex-job centre will creat 30 jobsa

A NEW pub in Crewe town centre is set to open its doors later this month.

The Smith and Jones branded pub, to be called The Waldron, will open at the former Job Centre in Prince Albert Street and is currently looking to recruit around 30 local workers.

It is hoped the new development will go some way to boosting Crewe's night time economy and will attract the town's burgeoning student population.

Managers of the pub, which is owned by the Barracuda Group, chose the name with help from councillor and Crewe historian Howard Curran.

Emma Currin, a spokeswoman for the pub chain, said: "We have appointed our manager and an assistant manager but we are still looking for kitchen staff and bar staff both full and part time.

She added: "We chose the name for the pub with Cllr Curran. Lots of pubs in Crewe have a railway theme but we wanted something a bit different.

"The Waldron is a river in Crewe and back in the 1800s there was a brewery that used the water from the river not only to make the beer but also to transport it.

"It was quite a nice link with the pub, Crewe and the river."

Work on the £820,000 development started in July and the pub is due to open on September 21.
