THE NEW section of a historic footpath running through Warrington has been opened.

The Bridgewater Way runs along the Bridgewater canal from Runcorn to Leigh in Greater Manchester.

The new part section of the 39-mile path was unveiled in Runcorn by transport minister Derek Twigg last week, and the Warrington section should be renewed by next year.
