Road map for equality is a 'fresh start' for disabled people

MP Helen Jones has teamed up with the Disability Rights Commission for a debate on increasing equality for disabled people.

The debate seeks to provide a roadmap for both the Commission for Equality and Human Rights and the Government over the next 10 to 15 years.

"This debate is the opportunity for disabled people in Warrington to become actively involved in shaping a fresh agenda for equality," said Helen Jones, MP for Warrington North. "Over the coming months I want to hear from disability groups within the constituency in order to identify the major priorities."

Bert Massie, chairman of the DRC, said: "While massive progress has been made since the Disability Discrimination Act first came on to the statute book in 1995, there is still a long way to go to reaching the goal of equal citizenship.

"A new agenda will only be credible if it is informed by the experiences and priorities of disabled people."
