Scout group set to get a new hut

WELLWISHERS have come to the rescue of a group of scouts left without a home and equipment after their scout hut went up in flames.

The headquarters of the 22nd Warrington east Hollins Green scout group was completely destroyed when arsonists set fire to a motorbike against the building on the recreation ground in the village last week.

But after an appeal in last week's Warrington Guardian, the future looks a little brighter.

The group has received offers of premises from the local churches, a local business and the local primary school. They have also had offers of donations towards new equipment.

Weekly sessions are going to be held in the school hall at St. Helen's Primary and the scouts would like to convey their thanks to all who offered to help.

A local charity, The Hamilton Davies Trust, has also agreed to help fund a new building.

A spokesman for the group said: "Discussions are continuing with Warrington Borough Council and Rixton-with-Glazebrook Parish Council, to find a suitable location for the new facility within the village.

"The Scouts are hoping to clear the site of the destroyed hut on Sunday, September 11, from 10am and all willing helpers will be welcome!"
