Knowles regains form on the world stage in Spain

FORMER European over 40s champion Phil Knowles reached the semi finals of the 400m in the World Masters Championships in Spain.

Warrington Athletics Club's Knowles, whose season has been interrupted by injuries, finished third in his over 45s heat in 55.12secs, qualifying for the semi final as one of the six fastest losers.

In the semi final, he finished outside of the qualifying places in third in a season's best time of 54.27secs.

Three Warrington athletes competed in Trafford Athletics Club's last open meeting of the season.

In the 3000m, Heather Timmins smashed her previous best by more than 22 seconds as she clocked 10mins 30.72secs.

Heather Roberts and Alison Patrick recorded 2mins 20.53secs and 2mins 33.9secs respectively in the 800m.

The best performance came from eight-year-old Liam Burthem in the under 11s boys' 600m. He finished third in a personal best of 2mins.
