Gavin touched many people's lives and was loved very much

THE distraught family of Gavin McAleer say his death has left a void in their lives that can never be filled.

The 27-year-old, of Longmoss Close, Middlewich, died from a stab wound following an incident in the car park of The Vaults, in Wheelock Street, on Thursday night.

Police and paramedics were called to the scene shortly after 11.30pm and Gavin was taken to Leighton Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.

Describing the former St Nicholas High School pupil as a 'bright, loving and often cheeky young man', his family say they are devastated by Gavin's death and have paid tribute to the keen sportsman who was loved by all his family and touched the lives of those who knew him.

In a statement to the Guardian, his family said: "We are devastated by the loss of our Gav, especially by the senseless way he was taken from us. There is a void in our family that can never be filled.

"Gavin was a bright, loving and often cheeky young man.

"He was an enthusiastic fisherman and enjoyed many other sports. He was a keen Manchester United fan.

"He was loved very much by all his family and friends.

"In the words of his young nephew, 'he was the goodest uncle ever'.

"He touched many people's lives - judging by the flowers at The Vaults car park it was more than even we had realised.

"We would like to thank those people who placed flowers there. It has been a comfort to all our family at this terrible time.

"We would also like to thank friends of Gav who gave him first aid and supported the police in the initial stages of the investigation."

Due to the nature of Gavin's death and the ongoing police investigation the family is currently unable to make funeral arrangements at this time.
