Community centre will give families chance to socialise

RESIDENTS in Runcorn's Weston Point have teamed up with nearby church St John's to convert an unused hall into a new community centre.

The group successfully applied for funding to transform the dilapidated Christ Church hall, receiving £7,000 from the Local Network Fund (LNF) to finance a weekly parent and toddler group as part of the refurbishment.

The Reverend Beth Gardner, who is leading the project, said: "We are aware that we have a valuable resource in the hall which ought to be available to residents in the local community.

"Facilities which are available in Runcorn town centre are not easily accessed by people living in this part of the town.

"Parents have also complained about a lack of places for their children to play and so the LNF money is funding a much-needed parent and toddler group.

"It was the residents that suggested we start the group and give families a chance to socialise. The facility will also provide a safe place for local children to play."

Once it is up and running the hall will be available to community members, with the group responsible for the running and maintenance of the facility.
