Big day for the queens

TRINITY Methodist Church held its annual field day on Saturday and organisers have hailed it as a huge success.

The field day is the church's main fundraising event and included fun for all the family with a crowning ceremony for this year's queen and stalls selling a range of refreshments.

John Lomas, field day secretary, said: "The field day enables us to continue to serve the community in which we live.

"It provides an enjoyable day at the church for all our members and friends."

This year's Sunday school queen was Cara Williams, who was accompanied in the procession by junior rose queen Natalie Hoppins and fairy queen Laura Webb.

The procession also included dancing troupes and members from a number of the town's uniformed organisations.

John said: "A lot of fundraising has already taken place this year to provide a newly refurbished kitchen in the Sunday school building and money from the field day will go towards that.

"The church officials would like to thank to offer most grateful thanks to all who have worked and contributed to such a satisfactory result."
