Waterside homes are on the horizon

UP to 450 new homes could be built on a timber site as part of a waterside regeneration scheme.

The 11-acre site is framed by the Manchester Ship Canal and River Mersey and is one of the few remaining waterfront development areas in the borough.

The proposals are to build 400 homes off Chester Road in Lower Walton.

SCA timber, which had been based on the site, will move to Stoke.

Peel Holdings, the company behind the scheme, has also acquired and gained planning permission to build a further 48 homes on nearby Greenalls Avenue on the site of the RMC concrete works.

The company recently held a two-day exhibition on the scheme which was attended by 200 residents.

The company also says that it would consider a number of environmental improvements.

These include making the Trans Pennine trail more accessible for pedestrians and cyclists, as well as preserving habitats and encouraging the return of some bird species.

Walton Lock and other historic features will be restored and a number of highway improvements made.

The company is hoping to submit a planning application to Warrington Borough Council later this month.
